SEMI E82 — IBSEM

SEMI E82 defines a host-visible specific equipment model for interbay and intrabay automated material handling transport equipment, including transport commands, controller behavior, state, reports, and material movement.

Area

AMHS

Profile coverage

300 mm Overhead Automation

Purpose

E82 gives a factory automation controller a consistent operational view of transport equipment such as overhead or guided transport systems. It standardizes the AMHS controller interface rather than the internal mechanics of each vehicle.

Where it applies

E82 generally applies to the AMHS transport system and its controller. A process tool connected to an OHT does not automatically implement the E82 transport model; it more commonly participates in load-port and handoff behavior defined elsewhere.

Who implements it

The transport equipment/controller exposes the E82 model to its host. Factory automation creates and monitors transfers. Process equipment coordinates its local carrier handoff through the applicable load-port, carrier-management, and I/O interfaces.

Relationships and dependencies

  • Assumes an E30 GEM and E5 SECS-II host interface for the AMHS equipment.
  • Complements E84 carrier handoff at the physical equipment boundary.
  • E88 provides a related specific equipment model for stocker storage equipment.

Practical implementation guidance

  • Assign transport command and carrier ownership across factory, AMHS, stocker, and process-tool boundaries.
  • Correlate command state, vehicle state, carrier state, and physical sensor evidence.
  • Test rerouting, blocked destinations, duplicate requests, recovery, and handoff failures end to end.

Common mistakes

  • Claiming every OHT-connected process tool must implement the complete E82 AMHS controller model.
  • Treating transport completion as proof that the destination handoff completed correctly.
  • Using different carrier identifiers across AMHS and equipment interfaces without controlled reconciliation.
